The week we've been waiting for!
Memorial Day is about over and the clock is ticking for this coming Thursday's visit by non other than the awesome Alyse Black. I've worked countless hours for the past 4 months, out of the 10 I've known Alyse, to put a show together that is already being called THE event of the year here in Payson, Arizona, a small town nestled in the mountains of central Arizona. She will be my co-host Thursday at Kit's Korner, heard here weekdays from 10:00am to 1:00pm on KRIM-FM. We'll find out more about Alyse on the show and even give some concert tickets away to some very lucky listeners! The night before (the 28th) she is performing in Los Angeles! She wanted to be here with me so much that she booked a flight out of L.A. to Phoenix, rent a car and race up here to Payson to be here! That night at 6:00pm she performs to at least 300+ at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino, who is also hosting Alyse with KRIM-FM. She will perform with her band, Societe Eclairee, who will have been driving from L.A. to be here for the performance. She will do 2 sets, consisting of 1 hour 20 minutes, a 20 minute break and finish up with another 1 hour and 20 minutes. Afterwards she will be available to sign autographs, have photos taken and meet her face-to-face! Alyse won Billboard Magazine's 15th Annual Song Writer's Contest for the category of jazz for her song, Stood For Stand For, from her latest CD entitled "Too Much & Too Lovely". Pre-sale tickets are available for $10.00 each at local area merchants and at KRIM-FM studios. Tickets will be $15.00 at the door. Must be 21 years of age. Management reserves all rights. No refunds.

39 Days and counting!
Why 39 days you ask? Well because in 39 days this town will be treated to a bit of music history in that Alyse Black will be appearing here for one night only at the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino from 6:00pm to 9:00pm in the main event room! It's being billed as; "An Evening with Alyse". KRIM-FM radio and the Mazatzal Hotel & Casino are bringing her here to perform her unique blend of jazz (but is it really jazz you say?) Tickets will go on sale at various locations around the area for $10.00 each and $15.00 at the door. Posters will soon go up all over including possible locations down in the Phoenix area, Flagstaff, Prescott, etc. I've tried contacting KYOT radio (THE Jazz radio station in Phoenix) but my phone calls, emails are being ignored so far......their loss! Many newspapers have also been contacted with no replies either......their loss. Alyse Black is the winner of Billboard Magazine's 15th Annual award for the category of jazz with her song; "Stood For Stand For". Her latest CD titled; "Too Much & Too Lovely" is selling like crazy I'm told. In the meantime while we wait for Alyse to arrive and also be my guest during my show here at Kit's Korner I'll be interviewing the wonderful Lauren Fincham from Jacksonville, Florida this Thursday April 24th at 11:00am MST and will be talking with her about her latest CD titled; "Perfect Pain" as well as finding out about her beginnings in music, what's on the horizon for her. Sometimes when history is made the effects are not really noticed till the dust settles and then those who had the opportunity to be a part of it wonder what happened. More as we get closer to May 29th. If that's not good enough, I'll be interviewing Alyse on my show this Tuesday April 22nd at 11:00am MST! Her interview will most likely be posted on our web site following the interview at: krim-fm.com

Artistic Gods of KRIM-FM
Just when I think it doesn't get any better than this, along comes yet another opportunity to give people what they want and have a blast giving it to them. Case in point, my interview with Susan Cowsill! What a breath of fresh air talking with Susan, becoming closer friends and giving my listeners a front row seat to a great, informal chat with Susan. Susan is just Susan, a wonderful, down-to-earth lady with a lot to share plus a bit of history as an added bonus. I received emails, calls from all over the world wishing they could have heard this interview. I just couldn't resist editing the recorded interview and posting it on our web site at: krim-fm.com on the Interviews page. I'm happy when I can make others happy since I do love my job. The response is just phenominal! I truely do appreciate all the emails, calls and feedback. It all adds validity to what I'm doing as a disc jockey playing Indie artists and playing great music. There is music, then there is great music. Another case in point: Alyse Black who writes, plays and performs her own blend of jazz/soul/pop music to rival the likes of Norah Jones. Yes, things do get better. Alyse will be right here in our town sometime around the end of May to spend the day with me in the studio on my show as my very special guest, yet Alyse is not really a guest. Alyse is family to me and my listeners. She will have her band here that night to play a concert at a venue yet to be announced, but with all the people involved, it will be quite exquisite! Alyse WILL be walking up those 7 steps soon to accept her Grammy and it won't surprise anyone here, yet this area of Arizona (all of central Arizona) has been right along side of me supporting her every step of the way.
It still gets even better! I'm in contact with Al Anderson of The Wailers! Yes, even though Bob Marley is gone, the music he inspired lives on through the magic of The Wailers. As interviews are secured it will be much easier to blog it all right here. Life is great with great friends and great music for which I am so honored and blessed to know the people who create.

Susan Cowsill's Interview at Kit's Korner
Susan Cowsill's awesome interview came and went, but was just too short. I could have talked with her and Russ Broussard all day! I was more nervous than she was. After all there's a lot of distance between us friends and we can't just connect any old time we want to. My friends who helped set this all up I can't thank enough. Angela Lee and Cid Galindo during SXSW in Austin, Texas.....KUDOS! Then there is Susan's staff: Georgianne and Katy who were very instrumental as well.....MORE KUDOS! The interview (edited out the commercials and songs) can be heard at: krim-fm.com on the "Interviews" page near the bottom along with a photo of Susan's CD "Just Believe It" and as a special treat, one of her songs as well to download or just listen to. While you're visiting our web site at krim-fm.com, be sure to sign the Guestbook on the main page and let me know how we're doing! Next week it's Payson's own Stephanie Mae who is an awesome talent!

Susan Cowsill Interview THIS WEEK!
If being in radio isn't exciting enough, it's when you actually rub shoulders with the hit makers, the celebrities and people who dare to make a difference. In my case I also dare to make THE difference by exposing, playing AND interviewing artists on the rise. Indie artists! There are thousands of artists out there who are making waves in the industry but lack the money, advertising, promotional outlet to get to the top. I have played and interviewed many such artists and am proud to say I am helping them make that dream come true. Such is the case of Susan Cowsill. She was already a child star with The Cowsills but dared to venture out on her own later on and seek her place in the music world. She found it but it was disrupted for a few years through the forces of a hurricane called Katrina, which destroyed her home, possessions, her brother Barry, and in it's wake she also lost her brother Billy. Susan is back with a vengeance and talent to be reckoned with and I have the pleasure of interviewing her on my show, Kit's Korner on KRIM-FM 96.3 in Payson, Arizona (which airs weekdays from 10:00am to 1:00pm) this Wednesday from 11:00am to noon MST! I couldn't be more excited about this. After listening over and over to her latest CD titled, "Just Believe It" I will be feeling like I am talking with royalty indeed. The CD was put on hold after Katrina and is now being brought back to life and this time it is sure to carry her to the Grammy Awards in 2009!
More interviews are on the horizon, possibly more exciting and possibly less, but one thing is for sure, I have a new friend in Susan and I am very proud to be a part of her career and life here.

Disc Jockey vs. Celebs
In my years as a radio station disc jockey one of the most rewarding aspects is the artist interview. Sometimes it is via a phone conversation during the jock's show or if the jock is really lucky the artist will come to the radio station and be interviewed live, in person and sometimes even perform a few songs right there! I've done them both and each time is as exciting as the next. I've had the pleasure of interviewing Indie artists I play here at KRIM-FM 96.3 in Payson, Arizona and it never gets dull. I enjoy them all! I can easily say, "I love my job".
Past artists I have had the pleasure of interviewing either by phone or in the studio have been:
Felix Jones Band - (Call-In Interview)
MiGGs - (Call-In Interview)
Les Fradkin - (Call-In Interview)
Kurt Crasper - (Call-In Interview)
Daisy Mallory - (IN-STUDIO)
Alyse Black - Winner of Billboard's 15th Annual Songwriter Award - Jazz

Kurt Crasper - GRAMMY NOMINEE
Broken Iris
Robert Windpony
Andra Suchy
Del Castillo
Cecilia Rockstead
Lauren Fincham
If these artists aren't exciting enough, I have even bigger aspirations to interview the following if I can somehow reach them:
Lucinda Williams
Betty Harris
John Hammond
Brave Combo - 2 TIME GRAMMY NOMINEE
Stephen Bruton - (Guitarist for Bonnie Raitt)
John Hiatt (what's his real name anyways?)
Feist - GRAMMY NOMINEE
Roger McGuinn (my personal guitar influence)
Guitar Shorty
Bonnie Raitt - MULTI GRAMMY WINNER
Al Anderson (Guitarist-Bob Marley & The Wailers)
Joe Kidd and the Gash
Joan Armatrading
J. D. Souther
Joan Osborne
Patty Griffin
Tony Joe White
If other major market jocks can interview them, I can and will too! It's a matter of digging through a complex mountain of the right people. Yet I'd actually like to go a step further and actually know these people, become good friends and continue supporting them. It's human nature; if you believe in someone you will go to great lengths to support them and know them as a close friend. Being friends is good ammunition to promote who you believe in. They in turn support and believe in YOU as well!
Artists come and go, yet every one is a challange in it's own way and I love the challange. Do you think Bob Dylan would actually take the time to be interviewed and become a friend of mine? Just ask him! Then tell him I'd like to speak with him ;-)

Susan Cowsill CD On It's Way UP!
This year's SXSW in Austin, Texas will see the return of Susan Cowsill promoting her CD called "Just Believe It". The CD was highly acclaimed just before hurricane Katrina lashed out it's furry upon the Crescent City, taking lives by the score including Susan's brother Barry. The attention on her new CD had to take a back seat. The Cowsill legacy lives on and is back with a vengeance to take the world by storm making Katrina look like a gentle spring rain. Susan will rise above and you will find out that your music taste buds have only begun to savour great music. All 15 tracks are sure to make a hit with every age group, from her radio friendly "Palm Of My Hand" to her gutsy bite out of human nature with "Talkin". Another selection worth noting here is her rendition of the Beach Boys' "Don't Worry Baby". You will find yourself having more than one copy of this CD handy for home, vehicle and portability reasons! I proudly play Susan Cowsill here at KRIM-FM 96.3 and will surely continue for a very long time to come. I also am the jock who plays music by Indie artists. Artists you've probably never heard before. Some were Grammy nominees and one scored the big Billboard 15th Annual award for jazz!
